Lewis leads Lady Redskins over Lady Panthers

Shamari Lewis would not be denied Friday night in The Big House. Lewis found her way to the basket on drives, rebounded missed shots and put them back in the basket, and found herself at the free throw line en route to scoring 32 points, grabbing 17 rebounds, and leading Liberal to a 73-44 win over Great Bend.

Liberal jumped out to a 5-0 start before the Lady Panthers answered with a 5-0 run for a tie.

But Lewis scored the next nine points for Liberal, and by the end of the first quarter the Lady Redskins had a 16-13 lead.

Shorthanded Redskins fall to Great Bend

Great Bend may have set the record for the number of dunks in a single game against the Liberal Redskins.

Liberal had no answer on defense to stop Ian Premer, who scored 30 points and led the Panthers to an 89-42 win over the shorthanded Redskins.

Liberal started three freshmen, a sophomore and a junior against the Panthers in the first game after the holiday break, and the younger Redskins struggled to land shots and get back on defense in transition which led to a number of uncontested dunks and layups for the Panthers.

LHS wrestling splits dual with Ulysses

The Lady Redskins continued to dominate on the mat Thursday in a dual against Ulysses while the Redskins fell short against the Tigers.

The Lady Redskins swept the lower weight classes beginning with Kiersie Carlile and continued to build on their early season momentum with a 72-12 win.

The Lady Redskins already have two tournament championships and have continued to dominate opponents. Thursdays performance against Ulysses was another step forward in the program.

Local club wrestlers compete at Pratt Ground & Pound

Fourteen members from Liberal Wrestling Club traveled to Pratt for the Pratt Ground & Pound tournament Saturday, Dec. 14. These young wrestlers ranged in ages from 5 to 14.

The team brought home four first-place finishes.

Dominic Zuniga (10 and under) had the most pins in the least time for the entire tournament. He had five pins for the day with all of them happening in 1 minute, 49 seconds combined.

Lady Redskins rebound with 65-46 win

HUGOTON — After a rough road trip to Woodward, Okla., last week, the Lady Redskins ended a three-game skid by defeating Hugoton 65-46.

Shamari Lewis had a big night, scoring 20 points and grabbing 15 rebounds in the win.

The Lady Redskin defense forced the Lady Eagles into several early turnovers and converted those to points. Hugoton also struggled to shoot early, and by the end of the first quarter the Lady Redskins had a 16-5 lead.
