HOOKER, Okla. — Despite being the focus of the Hooker, Okla., Lady Bulldog defense, Shamari Lewis found her way to the basket time and time again to not only lead Liberal to a 50-41 win, but to also score her 1,000th point as a Lady Redskin.

Lewis reached the milestone on her last free throw of the game that gave her 23 points for the game.

Hooker and the Lady Redskins traded baskets early, and Kiley Rhine sparked Liberal early with a pair of threes in the first quarter.

Lewis had to work her way through the Lady Bulldog defense and was only able to score a single basket but was fouled twice and made three of four free throws to score five in the quarter.

For three years, Shamari Lewis has been scoring points but also watching the Lady Redskins come up one game short of reaching the State tournament, and instead of talking about how she reached 1,000 career points Tuesday in Hooker, Okla., she was more focused on how here team performed and what was still ahead.

“Hooker is really aggressive and plays super hard,” Lewis said after a 50-41 win. “We have to play all four quarters, talk a lot, and that’s when we play good.”

Her points — just doing what needed to do at the free throw line late in the game.

“I was just looking at the score and saw we were only up by nine,” she said. “So I had to put these in.”

Liberal’s 14-4 run in the second quarter made the difference.

HOOKER, Okla. — Liberal played a solid first half against the talented Hooker, Okla., Bulldogs, but a 24-4 run by Hooker in the second half sank the Redskins in a 63-38 loss.

Both teams came out strong in the first quarter with the Bulldogs scoring on the first possession of the game, but the Redskins used three three pointers in the first quarter to keep the game close with long-range shots from Alan Olvera, Juan Diego and Adrian Moreno.

James Fieser also had five points in the quarter, and Ethan Olmstead came off the bench to hit a free throw, and the Redskins only trailed 17-15.

Kylie Rhine couldn’t miss. Well, almost.

Rhine connected on seven of eight three-point shots to dominate from the outside, and Maliyah Mullens owned the lane in the second half to help the Lady Redskins earn a 65-51 win Friday over the Pratt Lady Greenbacks.

Rhine helped the Lady Saints jump out to a 10-point lead in the first quarter by knocking down three threes including a long-range bomb at the end of the quarter. Shamari Lewis scored eight in the first period to go along with a Madysen Hammond basket and a Rubi Alvarez three, and the Lady Redskins jumped out to a 22-12 lead.
