For the second straight game, the Liberal Redskins overcame a large second half deficit, and for the second straight game, the Redskins came up just short in a 52-47 loss to the Dodge City Red Demons Friday in The Big House.

Like the Garden City game three days earlier, the Redskins started cold while the Red Demons built a lead, and by the end of the first quarter the Redskins trailed 12-4.

The Redskins cut the lead quickly in the second quarter before the Red Demons recovered with strong drives to the basket by Ty Scheck that sent him to the line. Scheck made six of 10 free throws in the quarter to go along with a basket and a three pointer, and the Red Demons had a 27-16 halftime lead.

ARKANSAS CITY – The Seward men trailed Cowley by double digits in the second half on Wednesday evening at W.S. Scott Auditorium but rallied to force overtime and eventually win, 91-83.

Seward (13-4, 8-3 KJCCC) now sits in a tie for first place in the Jayhawk Conference with Dodge City, who they travel to play Saturday afternoon at 3 p.m.

The Saints fell behind early as Cowley (11-6, 6-5) opened the game on an 8-0 run. The Tiger lead pushed to 13-5 and later 24-12 midway through the half.

A Quincey Kidd triple cut the lead to single digits, 27-19, and another Kidd three three minutes later brought Seward within six at 31-25 with 6:52 in the half. The teams exchanged buckets down the stretch but Cowley went to halftime holding a 45-35 lead. Seward shot just 33.3 percent and were outrebounded 17-11 in the first half.

ARKANSAS CITY – Kimora Fagan erupted for a career-high 25 points and the Lady Saints sunk 13 threes as they rolled to a 73-52 win at W.S. Scott Auditorium on Wednesday evening.

Seward (13-4, 8-3 KJCCC) was firing on all cylinders as they knocked down 13-28 (46.4 percent) from distance and held Cowley (9-8, 5-6) to 23.2 percent (13-56) shooting from the field. Both the percentage and field goals made were season-lows for the Tigers. Seward has now won four straight over the Tigers in Arkansas City.

After a hard hit in Woodward, Okla., left the Lady Redskins shorthanded without Shamari Lewis for most of the game, the Lady Redskins returned to The Big House, and Lewis returned to the line-up in a key Western Athletic Conference game against Garden City Tuesday, and the Lady Redskins came away with a 59-54 win.

The defenses dominated early, and the Lady Redskins were able to establish a 12-8 lead at the end of the first quarter.

Mia Hannagan kept the Lady Buffaloes close in the second quarter by draining three threes while Kiley Rhine used a pair of drives to the basket and a three to answer for the Lady Redskins. Devaney Carter came off the bench to drain a three for Liberal, and by halftime the Buffaloes trimmed Liberal’s lead to 26-25 at half.
