In a game that saw eight ties and 13 lead changes, it was the Fort Hays Tech Northwest Tigers who squeaked by the Seward Saints, 73-68, on Sunday afternoon at Max L. Jones Fieldhouse.

Seward (16-8, 11-7 KJCCC) was outrebounded 35-28 in the game, allowing 13 Tiger (13-10, 8-9) offensive rebounds and 16 second-chance points in the loss.

The Saints have lost four conference road games in a row and are now 5-7 away from The Greenhouse, while holding a 9-1 record at home.

Seward opened a 7-2 lead in the early going but Tech used an 8-0 run to take a 10-7 lead five minutes in. The two teams exchanged leads for much of the next five minutes but a Tech three at 8:14 gave them a lead that they held for the next six minutes. The Saints retook the lead on a Brevyn Coleman layup with two minutes and change in the half, but it was short-lived as Tech outscored Seward 6-4 the rest of the way to take a 32-31 lead at halftime.

Shamari Lewis was queen of the court for two-and-a-half quarter before being recognized in front of the home crowd for reaching 1,000 points in her career as a Lady Redskin. Oh yeah, she was also crowned Homecoming queen after Liberal’s 74-40 win over Great Bend.

The Lady Redskins put together one of their best first quarter performances in recent memory with 29 points including nine from Lewis.

Madysen Hammond also had a strong start with eight points in the period including a pair of threes, Rubio Alvarez also added a three, and Kylie Rhine continued to add to her long-range tally with a three of her own.

After two near misses for Western Athletic Conference wins against Garden City and Dodge City, the Liberal Redskins found themselves in position for their first WAC win of the season, but struggles in the second half led to a 76-70 loss that dropped the Redskins to 1-14 and in danger of not qualifying for the Class 6A playoffs.

Juan Diego had a hot start with three three pointers in the first quarter to go along with a drive to the basket for two to score 11 points in the period.

James Fieser pushed into the lane early and made a basket and was also fouled three times. He made three of his six free throws, and Adrian Moreno drained a three.

The Seward County Lady Saints cruised to a 100-58 win over the Pratt Beavers on Wednesday evening in The Greenhouse.

Seward (15-8, 10-7 KJCCC) snapped a three-game losing streak with the win. The 10 conference wins marks the 30th consecutive season of 10 or more conference wins for Seward.

The Lady Saints have now reached the century mark twice this season with the other being a 102-54 win over Trinidad State on Nov. 1st.

Pratt fell to 5-18 overall, 2-15 in league play.
