With temperatures hovering around 50 degrees Tuesday night at Brent Gould Field, the Bee Jays opened the season with a cold start, but they heated up late to earn a come-from-behind 3-2 win.
Josh Reed took the mound for the Bee Jays but struggled with his location and walked a batter and beaned two others. Dodge City got a clutch two-out hit to score two runs and took the early lead.
While there are many positive outcomes of sport and activity participation, the Kansas State High School Activities Association (KSHSAA) recognizes that burnout among high school students and athletes is a growing concern. The benefits include, but are not limited to, increased confidence, self-worth, learning team-building skills, learning communication skills, building a positive relationship with exercise, improved sleep, improved immune functioning, improved academic performance, and creating positive relationships with others. Burnout is commonly characterized by three processes: physical and emotional exhaustion, a decrease in the person’s sense of accomplishment, and the reduction in how that person values their sport (or activity).
The Redskins and Lady Redskins competed at the Class 6A Regional track meet Friday and several qualified for the State track meet that begins Friday at Cessna Stadium in Wichita.
NaZiah Williams claimed gold in the discus at the regional meet with a throw of 120-feet, 10-inches.
Miguel Ovalle claimed gold in the discus with a throw of 140-feet, 7-inches.
Xavier Tafoya took gold in the javelin wit a throw of 158-feet, 8-inches.
Tyren Holmes took first place in the shot put with a throw of 52-feet, 10-inches.
Liberal High School is excited to announce Joel Plummer as the new head boys basketball coach. Plummer brings a strong background in player development, recruiting, and program leadership from both the collegiate and high school levels.
A graduate of the University of Kansas with a degree in sports management, Plummer earned his master’s degree in academic advising at Kansas State University while serving as a graduate assistant for the K-State men’s basketball team under Coach Bruce Weber. His duties included coordinating equipment, managing film and scouting, and helping run practices and summer camps.
Liberal High School is proud to announce the hiring of Joe Denoyer as the new head coach of the boys and girls cross country programs. A well-known community voice and longtime radio personality, Denoyer brings a passion for distance running, deep local roots, and a lifelong commitment to youth and athletics.
