Redskin soccer moves to 7-1 with 5-2 win over Life Prep

After their first loss of the season last Thursday against Garden City the Liberal High School soccer team looked to bounce back against Life Prep.

The Redskins jumped on the scoreboard first with Gio Berrera finding the net 4:44 into the half with a nice assist from D’Alessadro Chavira.

Unfortunately after the nice start the Redskins started to struggle getting anything put together. At the 23:03 mark Josh Garcia found Diego Pavia just outside the box for the Redskins second goal. The Redskins continued to try to find their rhythm with a couple starters out due to injury.

GUYMON, Okla. — The Guymon Tigers couldn’t have asked for a better start to Friday’s game against Liberal, but once the Redskins turned a corner, they never looked back in a 52-13 Redskin win.

The first three minutes were a disaster for the Redskins. Guymon kicked off a short bloop, and the Redskins didn’t cover the ball. Guymon fell on the loose ball and three plays later reached the end zone for a 7-0 lead.

Girls tennis competes at Haysville tennis tournament

The girls tennis team competed in the Wichita Haysville tennis tournament and finished in 2nd overall.

Individual placers include:

No. 1 Singles - Evelin Tarango went 3-1 taking 2nd

No. 2 Singles - Isabella Rodriguez Diaz went 2-2 taking 3rd

No. 1 Doubles - Lynette Alonso and Giselle Mesta went 3-1 taking 2nd

No. 2 Doubles - Maliha Navarro and Yvanna Rivera went 3-1 taking 2nd

“The girls played great today. They showed major improvement and the ability to finish tough matches,” head coach Sergio Borjas said. “We were able to get some criteria wins for regionals and get an idea of what to expect.”

The girls team will play in McPherson’s Doug Gayer Invitational Tuesday.

Turpin Cardinals stampede Bison for 58-20 Homecoming win

TURPIN, Okla.—It was a happy homecoming as the Turpin Cardinals broke into the win column with a dominating 58-20 win over the Buffalo Bison.

Homecoming king Riley Fowler was a perfect 8 for 8 passing for 157 yards and 4 TDs. Fowler also rushed for another score and 44 yards in less than a half of work, all in his first start at quarterback. Fowler started the season at tight end but was moved to QB because of injuries. Cesar Quintana caught three of those TD passes for 80 yards in his first action of the season. Quintana is one of two players from Beaver playing for the Cardinals after their season was cancelled due to a lack of players. The OSSAA cleared them to play the day before.

Redskins suffer first loss in 1-0 defensive battle with Buffaloes

After scoring a major win over Dodge City Tuesday, the Redskins suffered a setback Thursday when they dropped a Western Athletic Conference game to Garden City, 1-0.

The Redskins had a slow start on their home field Thursday, and the Buffaloes spent the first 20 minuets controlling the ball and keeping the pressure on the Redskin defense.

The Redskins struggled to get the ball by the Buffalo midfielders and didn’t have very many scoring opportunities early.
