The Lady Saints trailed by a point at halftime Thursday against Colby but took a lead quickly in the second half and continued to outpace the Lady Trojans in a 59-47 win.

Avery Marchino led the Lady Saints with 21 points. Kylee Hunt scored 11, and Kezia Grant-Bobb had 10.

While the Lady Redskins have dropped six games this season, they are still in close contention to host a Sub State tournament for two rounds.

Liberal is currently sitting fifth, and the top four teams will host two games.

By record, Liberal is tied with Wichita East, both at 12-6. But Wichita East has a slight lead on Liberal in point differential margin having a 4.61 margin to Liberal’s 4.33.

While the Redskins are sitting 15th out of 18 teams in the Class 6A West standings, they have an opportunity to improve that position in the final week of the season.

Liberal (3-15) will host Garden City (3-15) Tuesday before finishing the regular season a week form today against 5-13 Dodge City.

Liberal could improve to as high as a 12th seed for the playoffs if they can get two wins or even 11th, which is currently held by Dodge City.

TURPIN, Okla.— The Turpin Lady Cardinals built a 17-point lead early in the second half and looked poised to cruise to an easy win and district championship. But a massive comeback by the Texhoma Lady Red Devils was only staved off by late free throws as Turpin held on to claim the title, 37-35.

“In the second half, we settled for a lot of quick shots,” Lady Cardinals head coach Travis Smalts said. “I do think we executed our defensive play really well. That’s what allowed us to win. We rebounded well, made enough free throws down the stretch, and got enough defensive stops to pull out a win.”
