TURPIN, Okla.— A huge offensive rebounding advantage and a couple of second half runs proved to be too much to overcome as the Turpin Cardinals fell to the Texhoma Red Devils 59-48 in the District 8 Championship game.

It was a back-and-forth contest that saw three ties and eight lead changes throughout the game. Turpin gained the early advantage, going up 16-9 late in the first quarter, but Texhoma scored eight straight to end the quarter up 17-16.

Seward County traveled to Barton County with seven active players on the roster, and the shorthanded Saints couldn’t keep pace with the Cougars in an 84-68 loss.

The Saints kept the game competitive but couldn’t make a significant run to overcome the Cougar lead.

The Saints trailed 38-27 at half and played even closer in the second half but still came up short 46-41.

Seward Lady Saint coach Will Marchino expected a tough challenge in Barton, and in the first quarter Seward appeared to be on the road to being blow out.

But the Lady Saints rallied to come away with a 65-57 win.

Barton jumped out to a 16-4 lead after the first quarter before the Lady Saints started to chip away at the Lady Cougar lead.

Liberal jumped out to a 13-0 lead against Lakin Tuesday in The Big House, and the Lady Redskins maintained momentum throughout the game to come away with a 67-34 win.

Kylie Rhine started the scoring with a three, and Shamari Lewis added another three with 5:39 to play in the first quarter that gave the Lady Redskins an 11-0 lead.

Zoey Torres followed with a putback bucket to stretch the lead to 13-0 before Lakin made its first basket of the game with 4:49 to play in the period.

Hannah McCarter answered with back-to-back buckets to push the lead to 17-2,

Liberal used the outside shot from a big man to keep pace with Lakin early, but after a competitive first half, the Redskins couldn’t maintain the level of play and lost 77-46.

Liberal’s first three shots came from beyond the three point line with a pair of threes from Juan Diego and another from freshman forward Adrian Moreno/Gonzalez.
