Strong 2nd half propels Lady Saints to win

After a nip-and-tuck battle through two quarters, the Seward County Community College women's basketball team decided to throw down the hammer and put the clamps on the Otero Lady Rattlers in the second half en route to a 66-45 triumph on Tuesday at the Greenhouse.

The Lady Saints extended their winning streak to four-games with the non-conference victory and improved to 8-2 overall. Seward also remained unbeaten at home, going 4-0 at the Greenhouse. Seward heads to play at fifth-ranked Dodge City at 1 p.m. on Saturday.

No. 5 Lady Redskins win opening dual

The No. 5 Lady Redskins opened the season with an impressive 24-6 win over Hugoton Tuesday in The Big House while the Redskins came up short, 49-29.

“We competed pretty well,” Liberal coach Mike Fowler said. “Hugoton is a very good team. I wanted to compete and I felt like we did a good job of that.”

The girls showcased more technique than previous years.

Lady Saints coast past Beavers 82-57 for third straight win

There was no Thanksgiving hangover for the Seward County Community College women's basketball team. After an epic come-from-behind victory against No. 23 Butler Tuesday, followed by Thanksgiving break, the Lady Saints showed no sign of a letdown with an 82-57 win over the Pratt Beavers Saturday at the Greenhouse.

The Seward County Community College men's basketball team came close once again only to fall short – again. The Saints lost to the Pratt Beavers, 74-71, in overtime on Saturday at the Greenhouse.

Seward remained winless in the Jayhawk Conference at 0-4 and 1-8 overall.

Lady Saints trail by 19 in second half, win 63-56

From one of the worst halfs to one of the best, the Lady Saints erased a poor performance with a 30-point fourth quarter to overcome a 19-point deficit in the Greenhouse Tuesday for a 63-56 win over the No. 23 Butler Lady Grizzlies.

Ari Gordon was key to the rally, dropping a career-high 27 points.
