The Lady Redskins softball team under first-year head coach Matt Quint started the season with a doubleheader sweep on the road over Colby.
Zoey Torres pitched a complete game in a 17-2 win. The game was called after the fourth inning due to run rule.
Torres also had a strong day at the plate with a four-for-four performance and three RBIs.
Allie Champion went three-for-four with three RBIs.
Liberal secured a dominant 9-3 victory over Guymon with a strong offensive performance in their season opener.
The scoring opened just three minutes in to the game when sophomore Evelin Tarango found the net from outside the left side of the goal.
Senior Nicole Catalan quickly followed with another goal.
The Redskins continued to struggle on the mound Tuesday and fell to 0-4 after a double header loss to Holcomb.
Skylar Hubbard started on the mound but couldn’t get out of the first inning after walking four and allowing two hits coupled with fielding miscues. Hubbard allowed six runs, none of them earned, before he was relieved by Alex Schwindt who was able to get the final out in the first.
The Redskins cut the lead to 6-2 after pushing a pair of runs across the plate. Liberal had a chance for more but left two runners stranded.
Liberal Wrestling Club had 12 wrestlers qualify for the State competition. Eleven of those traveled to Topeka for the Championship.
The girl’s portion of the competition took place March 14. Sofia Torres and Keirsie Carlile represented Liberal.
Carlile battled hard and took second for the High School girls 100 pound division at the State competition.
The Liberal Redskins opened the 2025 season Friday in a double header against Blue Valley West, who crossed the state of Kansas for the inaugural games of the season, and the Redskins dropped both games.
Blue Valley opened the game with two runs against starting pitcher Skylar Hubbard in the first inning and loaded the bases in the bottom of the inning but couldn’t score a run and trailed 2-0.
