He was born June 17, 1941 to Sam and Mavis (Ponder) Myers.

He married Sara Lorine Keene June 20, 1958. She preceded him in death Sept. 12, 2025.

She was born Sept. 24, 1936 to Loyal and Vera Fidler.

She graduated from Meade High School in 1955 and continued her education at Southwestern College, McPherson College, and Wichita State University.

She was born April 28, 1936 to Wesley and Irene (King) Donley.

She graduated from Milan High School in 1954. She later attended Southwestern College in Winfield.

CHARLES E. PAYNE

Charles Edwin Payne, 85, died on Sunday, Aug. 30, 2026, at his home in Tyrone, Oka. He was born on July 5, 1941, to Charles Robert and Nellie Veda (Giles) Payne in Carnegie, Okla. He married Sonya Sue Stalcup June 11, 1965, at the Western Avenue Church of Christ in Liberal. She survives. He graduated from Tyrone High School, class of 1959. He then obtained his bachelor’s degree from Southwestern Oklahoma State University. Charles began his 30-plus-year teaching career in Amarillo, Texas, later teaching in Adams, Okla., Tyrone and Liberal. He also worked in the oilfield from the late 1970s into the 1980s. He enjoyed watching the Kansas City Chiefs football and the Oklahoma Thunder basketball. He also enjoyed golfing, shooting pool, and playing bridge. He is also survived by his son, Darin Payne of Liberal; daughter, Deena Montano and husband Michael, Guymon, Okla.; granddaughter, Chelsea Cappellucci and husband, Lane of Guymon; two grandsons, Chase Montano of Guymon and Cameron Montano of Guymon; and four great-grandchildren: Harper, Grace, Titus, and Lainey Cappellucci. He was preceded in death by his parents and four brothers: Byron, Gary, Kenneth and Preston Payne. • A private family burial took place at the Tyrone Cemetery. Julia Alejandra Gutierrez, 40, died Monday, Aug. 31, 2026 at her home in Liberal. She was born June 30, 1986 to Jose and Lourdes (Dominguez) Garcia Sierra. She graduated from Liberal High School. She married Hiram Gutierrez Oct. 6, 2007. He survives. She worked at Cottonwood Elementary School and later served as secretary for Bright Start Early Learning Center. Her faith in God drove her to serve others at Iglesia De Jesucristo Palabra Miel alongside her husband. Survivors also include three sons: Levi Gutierrez, Ian Gutierrez, and Abraham Gutierrez; daughter, Hannah Gutierrez; brothers, Andres Garcia and wife, Maybeline, Wichita, and Asiel Garcia, Liberal; sister, Daisey Barkley and husband, Andrew, Liberal; niece, Sarah Barkley; and nephew, Lukas Barkley. She was preceded in death by her grandfather, Asuncion Dominguez. • Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 10, 2026 at Hornung Family Funeral Home at 1212 W. 2nd Street in Liberal. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Friday, Sept. 11, 2026 at Iglesia De Jesucristo Palabra Miel at 216 W. Wilson Street in Liberal, with Pastor Jorge Gutierrez and Pastor William Messenger presiding. Burial will follow at Restlawn Cemetery. Condolences may be left at www.hornungfuneralhome.com.
