Gary Lynn Jones, 69, diedFriday, Dec. 20, 2024, at Southwest Medical Center in Liberal.
He was born Jan. 5, 1955, at the Epworth Hospital in Liberal to Freddie and Velma (Chessmore) Jones.
He married Debbie Daugherty Oct. 25, 1975, at the First Assembly of God Church in Liberal. She survives.
In 1973, he graduated from high school in Liberal.
He worked for 25 years for Weatherford as a truck driver and operator. He also drove a truck for Pacific Ag.
He was a member of the New Beginnings Church and was a Soldier for Christ chaplin.
He loved to hunt, fish, and ride motorcycles.
He is also survived by his son, Casey Lynn Jones and wife, Evangelia, Denver; two grandchildren, Noah Thomas and Judah Lynn Jones; and one sister, Loretta Cunningham, Topeka.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Freddie and Velma Jones, one brother, Leroy Jones; two sisters, Neoma Blake and Fredia Jones; and one brother-in-law, Verle Cunningham.
• Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at New Beginnings Church, 2021 N. Western, with Pastor Phillip Dow presiding.
Burial will follow at the Liberal Cemetery.
Visitation will be until 8 p.m.today, with the family willpresent to greet friends from 5 to 8 p.m. at Hornung Family Funeral Home, 1212 W. Second Street, Liberal.

Dan Douglas Koons, 68, of Liberal, passed away suddenly on Sunday, December 22, 2024, at Southwest Medical Center in Liberal, Kansas.
Dan was born at KU Medical Center in Kansas City, KS on August 17, 1956 to Dr. Jess and Eva Lou (Manker) Koons.
On February 11, 1989 he married Susan Ringer at the First United Methodist Church in Liberal.
He was a graduate of Liberal High School, class of 1974. In 1978 he earned his Bachelor of Science Degree in Anthropology from the University of Tulsa. In 1982 he earned his Associate’s Degree in Allied Health and Radiologic Technology from Tulsa Junior College. In 1983, he received his Diagnostic Medical Sonography certification from the International Ultrasound Institute in Dallas, Texas. Dan was registered in Radiology and Computed Tomography, as well as, registered in Diagnostic Medical Sonography with registries in Abdomen, Obstetrics, Gynecology and Vascular Technology. He had the unique distinction of being one of thirteen people in the entire world to have passed as many registries. Dan worked in Diagnostic Imaging for many years; working at Newman Memorial Hospital in Shattuck, Oklahoma, Vassar Brothers Hospital in Poughkeepsie, New York and Southwest Medical Center in Liberal, Kansas. He earned various awards like, Employee of the Year, and Dean’s Honor Roll, etc., during his college years and career and belonged to several professional organizations. He also served as an Assistant Director and Director in the Radiology Department at various hospitals. Dan retired in 2022. He was proud of the many professional certifications that he had obtained throughout his career but, he also really loved the people that he worked with and the patients he helped. Dan’s easy demeanor, quick wit, kindness, and sense of humor made him a favorite with his fellow coworkers and patients alike.
Dan had many hobbies that he enjoyed including photography, archery, target shooting, and hunting. He was a voracious reader who loved history and art and, he loved to sing. Dan was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Liberal, Kansas, where he served on various committees and was a longtime member of the choir.
Dan is survived by his loving wife of 35 years, Susan, his favorite son, Christopher Douglas Koons and wife, Alicia, and granddaughter, Paisley Marie Koons of Liberal, KS. Mother, Eva Lou Koons of Liberal, KS, sister, Jane Stevenor and husband Joel of Utica, IL., niece, Rachael and husband, Dan and great nephew, Atticus of Shoreline, WA. Loving brother-in-laws, Charles E. Ringer, Oak Harbor, WA, G. David Ringer, Dallas, TX, and Robert J. Ringer, Stone Mountain, GA, and many nieces, nephews, cousins and other family members.
He was preceded in death by his father, Dr. Jess Willard Koons.
o Viewing will be 1:00 pm to 7:00 pm Friday December 27, 2024 with the family present to greet friends from 5:00 pm to 6:30 pm at Miller Mortuary, Liberal, Kansas.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, December 28, 2024, 10:30 am at the First United Methodist Church, with Rev. Dr. Rusty L. Husted, officiating. The service will be Live Streamed through the Church's FaceBook page.
Burial will follow in the Liberal City Cemetery.
